GY6: Permanent Supportive Housing

Completed:

Fall 2022 | Junior Year

This project was completed fall semester of my junior year.  This project focused on creating a permanent housing space for homeless veterans. There were two parts to this project. The first part was completed with my partner Sara Bauman while the second part I finished alone. The first part of the project focused on designing the community spaces of the building. The second part focused on the apartment spaces. This project was also research based.

Part 1: Community Spaces with Sara Bauman

For the first part of the project, we were tasked with creating 4 main community spaces. We were able to choose our own spaces which we chose a library space, a therapy office, a gym and physical therapy space, and a recreational space. We were required to have a shared kitchen and dining space, restrooms, and a receptionist area.

Part 2: Socially Sustainable Apartments

For the second part of the project, we were tasked with creating apartment typicals in the wings of the building. The apartments were designed using typicals. The apartments were designed to have a connection to the community spaces while still making it feel like its own space. The apartment space also had shared laundry and kitchen typicals. I wanted to create small apartments that utilized efficient spacing with multi-use furniture.
